Mossberg på Wall Street Journal har gått igenom tre direkta konkurrenter till iPod mini: Dell Pocket DJ, Rio Carbon och Creative Zen Micro. iPod mini har den bästa lösningen för att navigera mellan låtar i en stor samling, och den funkar även bäst för att synka med en pc, något som följande citat belyser:
"[...]a new iPod Mini we tested for comparison synchronized easily with the first Windows PC we tried, accepting both unprotected and protected music. While we spent hours trying to get the Dell and Creative players to mate with a PC, we had all our songs on the Apple about 15 minutes after opening its box."
Sammantaget gör detta att iPod mini fortfarande verkar vara herre på täppan, sin klenare batteritid och mindre hårddisk (4 GB gentemot 5 GB hos de tre andra) till trots.
